Welcome from the President

My Fellow Hornets,

We are all part of ASU’s “proud tradition” and have achieved “the promise of a bright future.”  Now, more than ever, it is a great time to be a HORNET.   We must answer the call to be active and to invest in our alma mater.

As the new President of the Metro DC Alumni Association of Alabama State University, I proudly take over the reins held by our outgoing president, Howard Watkins. Through his diligence and hard work, ASU Metro DCAA has increased membership, hosted several alumni events for visiting ASU student groups, participated in multiple recruitment fairs and collaborated with University leadership.

The ASU Metro DC Alumni Association is committed to upholding the rich heritage and proud traditions of the Alabama State University, the alumni, the faculty, staff, and students. The Metro DC Alumni Association will continue to support ASU’s administration to ensure that the University continues to maintain its tradition of high standards of excellence. The Alumni Association is a conduit for fostering loyalty to our alma mater, nurturing relationships amongst alumni, and developing pipelines for future Hornets.  Join me and other alumni on our quest to further the mission of the University and enrich the lives of metro-area students attending ASU. The DC Metro Alumni Association plans to:

  • Increase active membership of ASU alumni in the DC Metro Area
  • Generate funds for new and returning student scholarships
  • Actively recruit local students for matriculation at ASU
  • Revise association by-laws to ensure our guiding principles reflect our current goals and objectives
  • Partner with the University to transition DC Metro Area graduating Seniors to the Alumni Association
  • Support University-wide initiatives
  • Host the bi-annual National Alumni Association Convention in Washington DC during Summer 2013

You are important to the success of the DC Metro Alumni Association. Together we can influence the future of our alma mater and build a legacy that will maintain the great heritage of our University.
